Recapping the 10 x 10 Challenge

If you read my last blog post, you know that this week I finished up the Fall 10 x 10 Challenge. The 10 x 10 is a short-term capsule wardrobe that challenges you to get creative with the wardrobe pieces you already have, utilizing 10 pieces over 10 days. Read more about the challenge here.

I was drawn to the challenge, having been one to do annual fasts from buying clothing, it seemed like something I could get down with.

My goals going in were to 1. Utilize what I already own, 2. Realize the clothes I already own, and 3. Enjoy getting creative without having to sift through the rest of my items every day.

My favorite part? Checking out other 10 x 10 challenger's experiences and journeys. I encourage you to do some social media investigating to check some of them out, because it is pretty cool. One of the best ways is to search the #10x10challenge or #fall10x10 hashtags. Also, not having to sift through my teeny-tiny-over-packed-rental-closet every day was pretty grand. On most days I would open my closet and have my Ah-ha moment, because it's like I woke up every day and had literally forgotten about the simplicity of the challenge, and instant joy came over me.

I sometimes feel like Carrie Bradshaw when she says that she keeps sweaters in her stove.

Would I do it again? Totally. Is it something I will do on a more regular basis? Maybe. Although my go-to method of dressing myself is to use my entire closet, all year round. But moving forward, I think I would create even smaller 10 x 10's for myself, like little sub-capsules, depending on my season of life:

  1. A busy work schedule (10 x 10 could get you through 2- five day work weeks)
  2. Quick trips requiring a carry-on bag
  3. Long trips requiring a carry-on bag
  4. Prepping for a busy or transitional season of life

My 10 Items

  • 1 pair of jeans

Let me share my items a little more in depth. Click the images below for more information about my items, as well as few shoppable links (depending on the item).

My 10 Days

I hope my recap provides some inspo as to how you can recreate and utilize pieces within the wardrobe you already have, regardless of your reasoning or purpose behind it. More than anything, I encourage you to utilize social media to check out some other 10 x 10 challengers and see their stories.
